Castaneda set to win board seat

VICTORVILLE — Caleb Castaneda has won the race for the vacant seat on the Victor Valley Union High School District Board of Trustees, according to unofficial election night results from the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

The Registrar will issue updated results later this week, though a change in the result is unlikely given Castaneda’s wide margin of victory. He received 577 votes, or 49.49 percent, while Lisa Crosby garnered 32.25 percent and Margaret Cooker received 18.27 percent.

The special election covered only Area 2 of the five-area district, with a total of 1,166 votes cast.

The new board member will fill the seat vacated by Timothy Hauk, who resigned in February after winning the regular election last fall (Cooker finished second in that race). The board was unable to come to a consensus on an appointee after Cooker, Crosby and Tommy Babajian applied for the position this past spring, which led to Tuesday’s special election.

Once the results are certified by the Registrar, the new board member will be sworn in at the December board meeting and serve the remainder of the term, which ends in the fall of 2022.
