FONTANA — Three projects from seven Cobalt Institute of Math and Science students were among 40 projects that won championships at the 26th annual San Bernardino County History Day awards ceremony at Summit High School on Saturday.
The individual and group qualifiers advance to the California History Day competition on May 6-7 in Rocklin.
There were three divisions with both individual and group competitions: Elementary (Grades 4-5), Junior (Grades 6-8) and Senior (Grades 9-12).
Victoria Couillard of CIMS was recognized in Individual Research Paper category of the Junior Division. In the Senior Division, two teams from CIMS were honored for their Group Website projects: Jared Cruz and Brandon Pham were awarded while Marcus Cruz, Jose Osorio, Sean Renner and Jorge Salazar were also honored.
Close to 200 students competed in the county History Day event, which had as its theme, “Exploration, Encounter, Exchange in History.”
History Day gives students a chance to compete in a variety of categories on a historical theme. The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and Summit High School in the Fontana Unified School District sponsored the event.
