Incumbent Barbara J. Dew and newcomer Jose “Joe” Berrios won seats on the Victor Valley Union High School District Board of Trustees in the Nov. 8 election.
With two seats available, Dew led all candidates with 30.8 percent of the vote, followed by Berrios at 29.14 percent. Rosie Hinojos, who was appointed to a board seat earlier this year when Lisa Crosby stepped down, came in third with 20.91 percent. Ken Larson was fourth at 19.15 percent.
The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters had counted a total of 49,137 votes as of Nov. 16, with 100 percent of precincts reporting.
Dew is an elementary school teacher in addition to her long service with the VVUHSD board and other legislative agencies at the county and state levels. Berrios was a VVUHSD teacher and Victor Valley Teachers Association president before retiring at the end of last school year. Both are longtime local residents.
The winners will be sworn in at the Dec. 14 board meeting.
