Special needs prom

Special needs students have a blast at prom

ADELANTO — Hundreds of Victor Valley Union High School District special needs students gathered with friends, family and staff last week for the district’s third annual special needs prom.

The prom welcomed a wide variety of students, including the severely handicapped, who may not have otherwise been able to enjoy the traditional high school experience of a prom. The event rotates from campus to campus each year, and Adelanto High School was this year’s site. The event was held during the school day on May 5, with students being bussed from around the district.

Putting on the special prom is a combined effort by staff, students and the community. Adelanto High’s gymnasium was decked out with a Mardi Gras theme, including murals created by AHS art students. VVUHSD translator Jonas Cabrera donated his time to take professional photos of the prom attendees.

While many crowded the dance floor, attendees also enjoyed meals prepared by the Victor Valley High School Culinary Arts program, using food provided by the VVUHSD Food Services Department. Staff from throughout the district participated along with staff from San Bernardino County and Desert/Mountain SELPA. ______ PromPromPromPromProm
