Five Victor Valley Union High School District administrators and a Goodwill Education Center student were recently honored at the Association of California School Administrators Region 12 Administrator of the Year/Every Student Succeeding awards dinner.

ACSA Region 12 honors standout administrators in San Bernardino County each year, and this year VVUHSD had the most honorees of any district in the region.

From VVUHSD, Alternative Education Coordinator McKenzie Tarango was named Career Technical Administrator of the Year; Classified Personnel Director DeShawn Dickinson was awarded Classified Leader of the Year; Hook Junior High School Principal Carlos Cerna is ACSA’s Middle Grades Principal of the Year; and Director of IT and Assessment Dr. Audrey Hovannesian won Technology Administrator of the Year.

Francesca Sparks-Copeland, VVUHSD’s Special Education Coordinator, was honored with ACSA’s Valuing Diversity Award.

Goodwill Education Center student Jessica Corona was given the Every Student Succeeding Award, which honors students who have succeeded in the face of adversity. Corona persevered and completed her high school education despite her mother passing away after battling a long illness.

There were four other High Desert winners including Ajay Mohindra (Business Leader) from Adelanto Elementary School District; Xenia Lovett (Confidential Employee), also of AESD; Daryl Nickolaison (Curriculum & Instruction) from Hesperia Unified School District; and Faysel Bell (Secondary Co-Administrator) from HUSD.

These winners and 11 other recipients from the region were honored at the annual ACSA dinner on April 23 at the Doubletree by Hilton in Ontario.
