VICTORVILLE — The Victor Valley Union High School District has welcomed Ramiro Rubalcaba, Ed.D., as the district’s new Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources.

Rubalcaba comes to VVUHSD after more than five years at Azusa Unified School District, where he also served as Assistant Superintendent of HR. He had previously worked in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 17 years.

“As a student in L.A. Unified, I had some really inspirational teachers that motivated me to go into education,” Rubalcaba said.

He started his educational career as a classified employee, becoming a bilingual instructional aide. He continued his education, eventually earning his doctorate, as he became a teacher, dean, assistant principal, principal, district-level coordinator and then assistant superintendent.

Rubalcaba said a district’s greatest resource is its people, and he gravitated to HR because of his ability to form strong relationships.

Family ties to the High Desert are partly what attracted him to the VVUHSD job.

“My parents live in Victorville, and now as they are getting a little older, it’s really important for me to be close to them and enjoy them,” he said. “Also I have a younger sister who works in the district (Victor Valley High Spanish teacher Liz Alamo).”

Rubalcaba, who joined the district last month, also said the new job is an opportunity to broaden his horizons and diversify his experience as he advances toward his career goal of becoming a superintendent.

“Dr. Rubalcaba brings a wealth of personal experience, from classified employee, to teacher, to administrator,” said VVUHSD Superintendent Dr. Ron Williams. “His interpersonal skills, work ethic and knowledge will be fantastic assets to our district, and we are very fortunate to have him aboard.”
