Silverado High School juniors Nalanie Flores and Wilson Ramirez Castro Jr. were awarded silver medals in their respective divisions last week at the 2018 SIM Science and Engineering Fair.

Flores took the silver medal in the Computational Analysis & Modeling Division for her engineering project “De-stress With The De-Stressor App: The Design of a De-stressing Mobile Application With Multiple Features.”

Ramirez Castro earned the silver medal in the Applied Mechanics & Structures Category for his engineering project “Beating Betz’s Law: The Construction of a Wind Turbine to Challenge Betz’s Limit.”

The SIM Science and Engineering Fair covers a large region including San Bernardino, Inyo and Mono counties; students from around the district participated in the SIM event after winning top awards in their school science fairs and winning medals at the VVUHSD Science and Engineering Fair earlier this year.

Flores won the First Place Medal at the Silverado High School Science and Engineering Fair and the Sweepstakes Award (Best of Fair) at the VVUHSD Science and Engineering Fair.

Ramirez Castro received the Second Place Ribbon at the Silverado High School Science and Engineering Fair and the First Place Trophy at the VVUHSD event.

Flores and Ramirez Castro were the first Silverado students to garner top awards the VVUHSD fair and went on to become the only students in the district to win silver or better at the SIM event on April 4.
