A national website featured the Axe Game and named Victor Valley High School junior Efren Gomez the MVP as the Jackrabbits reclaimed the Axe with a 13-6 victory in Barstow on Friday night.

The Great American Rivalry Series, which features high school football rivalry games across the nation, featured the game on its website greatamericanrivalry.com, naming Gomez the MVP and naming VVHS senior Ricardo Perez one of the Scholar Athletes of the game.

Gomez scored seven of the Jackrabbits’ 13 points, kicking two field goals and an extra point as VVHS reclaimed the Axe from Barstow after a two-year losing streak in the High Desert’s longest-running football rivalry. Check out the Daily Press for more coverage of the game.
