CLHS event recognizes educators from two counties

ONTARIO Victor Valley High School teacher Heidi Shaw was among 10 educators from Riverside and San Bernardino Counties recently honored at the California League of High Schools Region 10 Educator of the Year Awards Dinner at the Ontario Airport Hotel and Conference Center.

“Mrs. Shaw is amazing,” VVHS Principal Nancy Noyer said. “Kids who have Mrs. Shaw as their teacher just can’t speak highly enough of her. … She’s one of the most dedicated people that I know.”

Shaw teaches medical courses at VVHS and has been a teacher for 20 years.

“My students teach me so much about integrity, strength, struggles and caring about each other, that it makes me a better person and I realize how great this world we live in is,” Shaw said during her speech. “I am truly grateful that I have this career and all of my kids in my life.”

The Nov. 15 ceremony included entertainment from the University Preparatory Chamber Orchestra and a speech from last year’s winner, Denny Vasquez of Excelsior Charter School in Victorville.

After the nominees delivered their speeches, Aaron Thomas of Carter High School in the Rialto Unified School District was selected as the Region 10 Educator of the Year. Thomas will now compete for the California League of High Schools statewide Educator of the Year in the spring.
