Statement regarding special needs student

District clarifies situation after media report

An article appeared in Tuesday’s Daily Press about alleged mistreatment of a special education student. The student in question is a part of a San Bernardino County/Desert Mountain SELPA class. Though the class is housed on the Cobalt Institute of Math and Science campus, the teacher is employed by the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools and works under the direction of a county administrator. Neither CIMS nor the district have any authority over the class or the teacher, and CIMS staff had no knowledge of the alleged incident. District staff has attempted to clarify the situation with the Daily Press and other media outlets, and all media inquiries are being referred to the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools.
