Student food-tasting event

Staff gets a taste of student opinions

There is at least one topic that is certain to elicit strong opinions from just about any student: food.

A group of Victor Valley Union High School District students had a unique opportunity to share their thoughts on school food during a taste-testing event held in the VVUHSD board room on May 6.

About 25 students were brought in from Hook Junior High School and Goodwill Education Center. The event was facilitated by VVUHSD LCAP Coordinator Laurren Francoisse after student complaints about food were brought up in student forums and surveys.

Jason Hill and Robynne Sokolowski of the VVUHSD Food Services department agreed to work with vendors and bring in various food samples for the students to taste and evaluate. Educational Services staff members including Carol Cronk, Laureen Beyer and Kevan Loyd joined Hill, Francoisse and participating vendors in serving the students food while Sokolowski collected their opinions, which will help shape the food choices for the next school year.

The students went back to class with full bellies — as did most of the staff members — and all parties involved deemed the event a success.
