Rapalo named Student of the Month

VVUHSD Student of the Month: AHS senior Jonathan Rapalo
Posted on 05/16/2017
Adelanto High School senior Jonathan Rapalo dreamed of taking a school trip to Europe, and he committed himself to making it happen. Rapalo worked for two years, first at a catering business and then at a takeout pizza joint, to earn enough for most of the $3,633 trip and spending cash to take with him.

It’s that kind of work ethic that has made Rapalo a standout student for the Saints and the Victor Valley Union High School District Student of the Month for April.

Rapalo has a GPA of 4.10 and is a member of ASB ,Link Crew, Do Something club and Pain ‘n’ Gain lifting club in addition to competing for the school in basketball, football, wrestling and cross country. He is in the top 4 percent of his graduating class and has taken honors and AP courses since 9th grade.

“Any adult who has interacted with Jonathan will say that he is an articulate, polite, humble, generous, considerate and ambitious young man,” AHS Principal Ebony Purcell said.

Rapalo said his parents were at first hesitant to help out with the Europe trip, but they changed their minds when he showed he was willing to work for it. They donated some funds for the trip, but Rapalo said the majority of it came from putting “almost every single check” toward the trip.

“That was a way for me to prove that I'm responsible,” Rapalo said.

Rapalo said the trip was “well worth it” and he brought home gifts for each of his family members.

Rapalo hopes to one day obtain a master’s degree in business, with the aim of owning or managing his own company.

“Jonathan is easy to spot on campus as he always had a positive, welcoming demeanor,” Purcell said. “His sincere caring nature, intelligence, charm and work ethic are second to none. There is no doubt Jonathan's future is bright.”
