Student of the Month May 2018

Student of the Month: May Aye, Victor Valley
Posted on 05/28/2018

Stanford-bound Victor Valley High School senior May Aye has been selected as the Victor Valley Union High School District Student of the Month.

May graduated from VVHS this month with a 4.4 GPA. VVHS Principal Nancy Noyer said that May’s teachers consider her “one of the hardest working and strongest students they have ever taught.”

May was born in Burma. Her family has been in the U.S. for about seven years, living in the Bay Area before coming to Victorville three years ago. She has thoroughly enjoyed her educational experience at Victor Valley High.

“It’s more support than anywhere else,” May said. “The teachers are very open to giving assistance.”

May said there are more educational opportunities in the U.S. than in Burma. She said most education there centers around the medical field, which wasn’t the path she wanted to take.

“If I had stayed there I’d be a doctor by now,” said May, 17.

She plans to study architecture at Stanford. Most of her education will be covered by a Stanford Scholarship and a Cal Grant, May said.

In addition to being a standout student, May competes in tennis, swimming and academic decathlon. She’s been a member of the Key Club and the Roots and Chutes environmental club.

“She is bright, funny, creative, and kind,” Noyer said. “Her peers celebrate her success.  She is humble and so deserving.”
