About Us

The Victor Valley Union High School District serves approximately 11,000 students in grades 7-12 in the cities of Victorville and Adelanto, CA.

VVUHSD serves the Victor Valley region of Southern California’s Mojave Desert, situated about 80 miles northeast of Los Angeles, with a diverse population of roughly 400,000 inhabitants.

VVUHSD is the region’s first high school district, established in 1915. Its flagship school, Victor Valley High School, was the area’s only high school until 1967 when neighboring Apple Valley built its own (with other nearby cities later doing the same).

Today, VVUHSD has three comprehensive high schools (Adelanto, Silverado and Victor Valley high schools); two schools of choice (Cobalt Institute of Math and Science and University Preparatory School); one junior high (Hook Junior High School); one middle school (Larrea Middle  School); one grade 7-12 academy (Lakeview Leadership Academy); one virtual academy (Victor Valley Virtual Academy); and two alternative schools (Goodwill High School and Victor Valley Adult School).

The district employs over 1,000 staff members, led by Superintendent Carl J. Coles. The district is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees elected every four years. As of 2023, the board consists of Jose Berrios, Kent Crosby, Barbara Dew, Penny Edmiston and Rosalio Hinojos.

The board, superintendent and staff strive each day to realize the district’s mission:

“As the unifying agent of our community, steeped in more than a century of commitment to student achievement, the Victor Valley Union High School District will provide students a high-quality education in a safe environment, cultivating skills necessary for success through the promotion of integrity, creativity and collaboration, inspiring them to reach their full potential and become productive global citizens.”
